Why Slovenia?

You will find in Slovenia

  • Quality workforce
  • Quality link to regional markets
  • Quality infrastructure
  • Quality of life

Most foreign investors are attracted by Slovenia’s strategic position at the heart of Europe, its excellent transport and ITC infrastructure, its value chains, industry clusters and centers of excellence. Investors keen on locating their operations at the heart of the market with 500 million consumers will find Slovenia’s international commercial contracts and the land-sea-air transport system ideal.

A corporate culture of transparency and accountability, observance of international technical standards, personal integrity and company loyalty make a foreign manager’s job easy ever since the first big international companies established their operations in Slovenia. Investor confidence thrives on legal and institutional reforms designed to facilitate investment. Staring a company is straightforward and easy through single-access points to register a limited liability company, obtain a construction permit and carry out any other administrative procedures.

Slovenia as a potential host country has balanced class forces, class-based economic disputes are rare and wages are very reasonable for the level of education and skills of the local workforce.

Strategic location

Ideally situated to serve Europe’s west and east, north and south, Slovenia does not only have excellent communication and transport infrastructure, high-quality services and the functioning public administration and the financial system, but has people with long business and personal links in the Western Balkans. It is the right place to forge partnerships for conquests of emerging markets and developing markets with rising internal demand. Goods are moved quickly and reliable, clearance procedures are efficient and once goods enter Slovenia via road, rail, air or see, they are at the doorstep of the EU market with 500 million consumers and many more in Europe’s east and southeast.

Slovenian investment abroad

Strategic partnerships between foreign investors and Slovenian companies with a strong foothold in central and east Europe would serve to boost productivity in target countries by implementing policies to spur innovation in order to move up the value chain. Process and organisational innovation, including non‐technological innovation, enhancing knowledge‐intensive skills (in engineering, design, marketing, information technology and R&D) and increasing associated investments (including advanced machinery, software and databases, branding, firm‐specific human capital and organisational capital) would benefit all stakeholders.

Slovenia: green attraction

Slovenia, with its diverse landscapes, is an attraction in itself. It is the first country in the world that has been, as a whole, declared a green tourist destination. Here, in addition to exceptional and special natural features, you can discover places that are UNESCO World Heritage protected, and surprising stories about love, nobility, salt, and subterranean mysteries.

The first Green Destination in the world

Slovenia is the first country in the world to be, as a whole, declared a Green Destination. It earned this title based on the criteria that show the high level of its commitment to sustainable tourism. In 2016, Slovenia Green Destinations and Ljubljana, European Green Capital, was ranked among the 100 most sustainable tourist destinations. Find your own green experiences in Slovenia!

The land of UNESCO World Heritage

Škocjan Caves with their subterranean canyon, Idrija with the once world-renowned mercury mine, and the Ljubljana Marshes, where you can discover the heritage of an ancient pile-dweller culture – these are the special features of Slovenia that can be found on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are an additional six special features of Slovenia on the Tentative List that are still waiting to be declared as World Heritage.

200 years of the most visited cave in the world

Catch a unique underground train which will take you among thousand years old dripstones, through large halls and past hidden corridors. The 24-kilometer long Postojna Cave is the place where you can meet “dragon’s babies” in person, the place where unbelievable creatures hatch: the olm or the human fish. In the 200 years since the cave has been open for tourists, its beautiful features have been seen by more than 38 million people. Very close to the cave you can learn about the legend of the fearless robber knight Erazem of Predjama, in one of the largest cave castles in the world: Predjama Castle.

The home of Lipizzaner horses

The original stud farm for the noble white horses has been in Lipica in the Karst Region since 1580. The oldest European stud farm to breed the same horses without interruption is a cultural and historical monument, which impresses visitors with its magnificent horses and special karst landscape.

An image of paradise under the Alps

For centuries, the town of Bled and Lake Bled, which boasts the only island in Slovenia, have been attracting those seeking outstanding beauty. Traditional boats called pletnas take visitors to see the island and the church, which has a bell that is a special ode to love. The most beautiful view of the lake, its island, and the surrounding Alpine peaks can be enjoyed from the castle towering above the lake on a cliff. This castle is considered to be one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Europe.

The salty surprises of the Mediterranean

The Piran Salt Pans, where salt and the world-class fleur de sel (flower of salt) are still made using age-old methods, were the reason why Piran, the most beautiful town on the Slovenian coast, flourished. The picturesque medieval town, the entirety of which is protected as a cultural and historical monument, adjoins two landscape parks. In one of them, visitors can see the highest cliff on the Adriatic Sea.

Peace and tranquility on the banks of the most beautiful river

In addition to countless natural beauties, the valley of the emerald green River Soča, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful and best preserved Alpine rivers in Europe, also preserves the shocking heritage of World War I. This was the scene of the Isonzo (Soča) Front, the largest mountain battle in history. Rising above the valley and its Paths of Peace is Triglav National Park, the largest Slovenian protected natural area.

Herdsmen’s huts at Velika Planina

The end of spring is when the cowbells out on the Alpine pastures of the Velika Planina plateau start ringing, announcing the arrival of herdsmen. It’s a magical plateau with one of the largest herdsmen’s settlements in Europe. And you’re invited to learn about the fascinating life on the mountain pasture and sample the dairy goodies they’ll prepare for you. Go for a walk through the meadows or take a hike (or mountain bike) across the plateau.

Take time to unwind in the Logar Valley Landscape Park.

The Logar Valley (Logarska dolina) is one of the most beautiful Alpine glacial valleys in Europe. The harmonic balance between tradition, man and nature that found its home in this part of the Solčava Region is both exceptional and difficult to find. Make your stay in this peaceful landscape park an opportunity for hiking, cycling, horseback riding or a photo safari. The park has also won the international CIPRA Future in the Alps Award for successful management of the protected area.
